Gallery '76 Members Show, 2004. (Check out our "Funstuff" page for the full story of the Greater Omentum Police Department)
"Harvest" was constructed from my art, photos of graffiti from alleys in our city, plus computer graphics. The print is about 15" X 30" and thought provoking. I took the photos of all the gang graffiti; some days we took over thirty different "designs". I would rather take photos of clouds, or flowers, or ducks on the river. At least there is no graffiti on those things. ... so far.
"DECORATE THE HARVEST"; 21" X 22"; A commissioned art quilt made from graffiti photos and my artwork transferred to fabric. Hopefully I can now move on to other things.
"MONDRIAN INSPIRED"; about 60" X 70"; 2006 -2007 No further explanation necessary. This is too wonderful for words.
"VILLAGE AT NIGHT: (VAN GOGH INSPIRED); 51" X 61"; 2007 Accepted into the 52nd Annual Central Washington Artists Exhibition, Yakima, Washington 2007 There must be something about Dutch painters that inspire interpretations in fiber. I'm not sure what it is, but will post it when I figure it out. This is also too wonderful for words.
"EARLY SPRING"; 20" X 27" ; 2007 Cotton Fabrics Gallery '76 Salon & Sale 2007
"DANCERS"; 23" x 25"; 2005 - 2006 No particular reason to dance; they just enjoy it! Cotton fabrics, beads, charms, feathers; hand applique, hand quilted. Gallery '76 Members Show, 2006
"BREWS AND POTIONS"; 28" X 29"; I have more fabric than paint. The background is a photo collage of ice cubes; the bottles, labels and caps are fabric, glued on foam board. Great design, terrible method. I think I'll buy some paints.
"BODYPARTS"; 38x x 48"; cotton fabrics; hand appliqué, hand quilted. Notice there are no muscles. Beware of prescription drugs! Visual Arts Network Winter Studio Tour, Wenatchee, Washington 2004
"CHANGE ALWAYS COMES FROM THE OUTSIDE"; 44" x 48"; cotton fabrics; beads & buttons for embellishment. Hand appliquéd, hand quilted. 1999. I had foot surgery so I added two Band-Aids. 2005.
"TALK 'TIL SHE'S BLUE IN THE FACE"; 23" square; cotton fabrics, beads & buttons. Juried Show: Art Quilts VII, "Caught in the Act", Chandler, Arizona, 2002
"1957 COFFEE HOUSE"; 50" x 60"; This quilt holds gentle singers and a replica in fabric of my Stella Guitar, a gift I received for my 17th birthday. At that time all I wanted was to become a Beatnik, only I could never figure out what one was! Cotton fabrics, beads and buttons. Gallery '76 Members Show; Wenatchee, Washington, 2003 On Loan to Woods House Conservatory of Music, Wenatchee Washington 2006
Fabric of Legacies show, Fort Collins, Colorado, 2003 International Quilt Festival, "Quilts, a World of Beauty", Houston, Texas 2003 YOW! Winner $150 Felicia Melero Holtzinger Award for Best Use of Fabrics 50th Annual Central Washington Artists Exhibition, Yakima, Washington 2005 WOW! Gallery '76 Members Show, 2006
Here is a close-up of "The Diva". She is absolutely wonderful.
"TRIANGLE FLOWERS"; 25" square. This one is nothing to shout about but making it was a pleasure. Cotton fabrics, no embellishments (I got tired of it), hand appliqué and hand quilted. This was an exercise in making a pictorial quilt out of whatever shapes the scissors gave each color. This project also kept me off the streets, which probably would have been a lot of fun even at my age. Summer 2004. A long, hot, noisy summer. Published in "Applique Quilts" # 22 from Harris Publications.
"CIRCLE FLOWERS"; about 18" square. Another fabric collage. Better than the first one, but still doesn't "soar". Fabric, foam board and glue. Lots of glue. A photo of this work looks much better than the original. Winter 2005.
Using the Periodic Table of the Elements is a great way to start a project. The remainder of the design just happened. I took a few artistic liberties and added some music and a heartbeat. After all, if music isn't in the official table of the elements, it should be. 60" X 70"; 1998 Tom Lehrer thought so too. Click to hear his musical version.
Periodic Table, close up
This is a smaller version. It didn't "soar" but was fun to make. Lots of beads. Heavy sucker. All cotton fabrics. Hand quilted. 1999.
"Celtic Wreaths" is another example of using fabric and scissors to see what happens. 60" square; hand appliquéd, hand quilted. 1998. Sold October 2006
"Vincent's Flowers"; 18" X 20"; hand appliqué, hand quilted, a small project to help the winter pass more quickly. 2004 - 2005
Sold May 2006
Another small project; about 23" X 30"; hand appliqué, hand quilted, embroidery embellishment. 2005
Sold May 2006
